Really dislike

I'm really disliking this time change thing. I don't recall it ever effecting me so much as it has this time around.

By late afternoon in my work schedule the clock tells me I have one more hour to work, but my body tells me its time to go!!! Boy that last hour is a struggle to do anything.

And then it feels like at 6pm that its already dark. I have to make sure that if I want to walk M&M I do it earlier in the evening than I'm used to.

Seriously... what's the point?

My Prediction - Update!

So it's back to work after a nice long Holiday! And there is one person in my department who is just.... what's the word I'm looking for?... well they're kind of useless. We call them the Roach and it really has a couple of reasons. They like to mooch food off everyone but never offer to buy and replace it and they mooch off your time.

So here is where my prediction comes in. The Roach will come into my office and start spilling about some drama that undoubtedly occured over the Holiday. Their phone will ring and they'll run out to catch it (because they don't want to rely on their voicemail? Maybe they don't know how to use their voicemail? Or maybe it's because it's one of their friends that they'd like to retell their drama Holiday story to) OH! And never once will they ask how my Holiday was.

I'll keep you informed.

Update November 27, 2007 - 8am

Ah! I'm so good. Well the Roach didn't come in yesterday because they had jury duty. So first thing this morning came to tell me about that. Then right into thier Turkey day with the family which surprisingly wasn't bad. And then a "well I guess I best get to work and check my email."
As soon as they left they went to someone else "HEY! So how was your Thanksgiving?" That was the Roach asking the other person. I just had to laugh because not once did this person ask how mine went.

This person irritates me so much sometimes that 2 days last week before the Holiday I was keeping up with how much time they were on the phone with friends and family or chatting with someone about non work related topics. I just don't understand how this person gets away with it. One of these days an anonymous message will appear on the bosses desk.

Why give them the pleasure?

So our company is over budget. Again. What does this mean to me?

Well back in April they made all of us in Admin go out and help stuff envelopes a set amount of days a week. We don't have to do it this go round. Yet. However we do have to go out at a moments notice if there is an influx in mail coming in.

Monday is usually the busiest day so I took this past Monday off. Granted I had something that needed to be taken care of. I could have done it on a Friday and had a 3 day weekend that way but I figured I would choose Monday. I chose correctly as there was an influx in mail.

So I got to thinking, I really have a lot of vacation time so I decided to take the next two Mondays off. I figure if I can't get any of my real work done then I'm not going to be there to help you stuff envelopes.

Hire decent people then you wouldn't need us. Plus if you're so d*mn busy and need help then you need to get everyone out there helping. I have two people in my dept alone who are ALWAYS excluded from assisting. Why? That's a great question. We don't know! Plus there are a few Supervisors that are excluded. Why? Evidently because they have a few work at home agents on their team. What does that mean? Who the hell knows. I guess if the agent has an issue and calls their Supervisor they're there to help. Well that's a load of crap because they're always out and about chatting with each other.

Anywho. So this Monday I have no real plans. Although my mom is not working on Monday so I might see if she wants to get together. Or I could just sleep all day! :-)

Side Note: That lovely tropical storm, or whatever it is, that was to hit the Southern part of Texas has moved it's way into the DFW metroplex and we're getting some rain. Nice!

TEACHERS BEWARE!!!

Okay I'm driving in to work this morning listening to the radio and they mentioned something I had not heard of that affects teachers so I thought I would pass it along as much as I can so those of you who are teachers will be aware of this change. (I know that was a horrible run on - teacher's don't shoot me!)

The IRS has implemented a new law on those who have annualized salaries. I had no clue what that was but it was explained that in the example of a teacher they work 9 months and can either opt to receive payments for those 9 months or have it paid out over 12 months.

Well for those of you who opt to have it paid out over 12 months will receive a new 20% tax. That's right 20%!!!!!!

The DJ's on Mix 102.9 (Dallas station) said they were watching the news last night (I believe they mentioned Fox 4) and saw this. In the news segment they went to the Dallas IRS to get more information on it and they had no clue of this new tax!

And supposedly you can waive this new tax but you have to fill out a form BEFORE the school year starts. If you fill it out after the school year starts there are penalties involved. When the news called the IRS to ask what type of form should be used they didn't know if there was an "official" one that had been approved yet. Boy they have it together huh?

Sorry I've not done any research on any of the above details. I just sat down at my desk and thought I would share what they mentioned. I know that Mix 102.9 was getting calls from some teachers who potentially knew about this so maybe they might put something on their website later. Otherwise, if you're a teacher - you might want to do some research before the new season begins!

Making Ends Meet

Okay I was half way paying attention to a show that came on tonight, I think it was called "Family Secrets" or something like that.

They were talking about a single mom of 3 who was missing. Her brother and friends were out looking for her every day trying to find clues. People from the community were helping as well.

Of course she's a single mom so she's doing what she has to do to "make ends meet". I understand this and I applaud every single mother out there that does this. I truely do not know how you do it and stay so strong - although I know there's a break down every now and then but that's what your friends are for. ;-)

Now for this lady to make ends meet she learned how to do massages. And evidently offered "extra ammenities" with her massages for the right price. Evidently when the community heard of this less and less showed up to help search for her. Okay, she's still a single mom with 3 kids who still need her. Regardless of what she does for a living you should still try and find her. Now if she had killed someone or was a rapist or something like that then I could see giving up the search - not worth my time.

But the real reason for this post was because of something else they mentioned. If you're doing everything you can do to help provide for your kids and all then don't you think you should give up your $6,000/month house? Yep that's right, they said her house was an estimated half or 1 million dollar house. Maybe that's what you should be giving up. Live within your means. What are you thinking? I understand you want comfort for your kids, but seriously you can't find that in a house for less? Plus they were showing the kids in their play room... they obviously were not lacking in toys. Maybe they too should learn to live a little less off. sigh.

What a bunch of crap!

So at my lovely envelope stuffing job they're expecting high level messages and need everyone's help. Of course when they mean everyone they don't really mean everyone. Interestingly enough out of my department there are about 3 people who are always exempt from this rule. Why? I couldn't tell ya, I've asked my director and she won't say. I can understand maybe one of them but one in particular I can not. Mr. M thought it was due to her long time with the company and I told him that doesn't cut it as there is someone else in our dept. who has been here longer and must help.

So as of last week we started assisting. Luckily we only had to do 2 hours a day instead of a full 8 hours - which is brutal! However when I'm out on the floor I never see any Supervisors out there helping. My director ensures me that everyone is helping. Sure.

So this week we get to "sign up" for the 2 hours each day that we want to work. Sounds great, then I know when to go out and help and I can do my normal job around that. However we were told to ask and make sure they needed us before we actually went out. So I did that this morning and was told I was needed. I start my envelope stuffing and about 15 minutes later my "mentor" comes out and tells me that they don't really need me. So back to my desk and to my normal job.

About 2 hours later we're told to go out and help. I'm out there about 15 minutes when my "mentor" again comes and tells me they don't need us. I tell her I'm not playing this get on get off thing all day. This is bull crap.

We get an email advising that they are expecting to be busy about 10:30 so they'll need everyone to go out at that time. Yeah right! My lunch starts at 11 so I sat at my desk and waited. Plus I sit next to the QA dept and if I don't hear them helping, I'm not helping. So I went to lunch (and am still on lunch that's why I'm posting) and I guess I'll have to check when I'm done if they will still need me or not.

I'm really considering taking a few days off... just to escape this insane "procedure". Evidently they are unable to predict and staff very well to accommodate accordingly. And still we get no incentives or bonuses for what we do.... NICE!!!!

Paris Released!

OMG!!!! WHAT????

From CNN:
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Paris Hilton was let out of jail Thursday morning, just three days after she began serving what was originally to have been a 45-day sentence for violating probation, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said at a press conference.
Hilton must wear a monitoring bracelet and remain at her home for another 40 days, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.
Medical considerations "played a part" in the decision to offer Hilton home confinement for the remainder of her sentence, Whitmore said.
He said privacy rules prohibited him from giving details about the medical issues, but celebrity Web site TMZ.com earlier quoted sources saying Hilton was refusing to eat much of the jail food served her.

You've got to be kidding me!! What medical condition? Stardom? Stop being a baby and serve your time!!! Ridiculous!!!!

Superbowl 2011

So it was announced today that Dallas will host the 2011 Superbowl!

Whoopty freakin doo!

Me and a couple of friends of mine at work were talking about this. We said "make your travel arrangements now to be out of the city". I understand it will bring in revenue to our city, of which I'm sure I'll not see anything really done with it, but I don't want to be in the midst of it all.

Me and my bf were also talking about it tonight. At first we also agreed to high tail it out of town. Then I told her that's when all of our "friends and family" will be calling asking if they can stay with us. THEN we decided we could rent out our extra rooms, make some extra cash. Okay, I know that will never happen, but would be funny.

Speaking of funny. I think it's funny how they chose Dallas and the new Cowboy Stadium. There not even done with the stadium. As a matter of fact have they even started building it? How do you choose a stadium that's not complete, how do you know what it will be like and stuff? Truthfully I could care less about the Cowboys Stadium. Just because I'm in Dallas does not mean I like the Cowboys. I don't really like football. But when people ask who my favorite team is I respond, "Whomever is playing against the Cowgirls!" :-)

So much drama!

I have a co-worker, great guy have worked with him for years, but he is really irritating the h*ll out of me the past few days.

I'm not exactly sure what he does all day - work related that is - but I can tell you what he does most of the day that's not work related. And that's talk on the phone to his friends and family. And then when he's done talking to them he has to come to me or other co-workers to re-hash what he just talked to his friends and/or family about. The thing is, he talks VERY LOUD, so really we've heard the conversation already, well at least his side of it.

The latest drama involves his mom wanting him to visit this weekend since it's Mother's Day, his birthday happens to fall this weekend as well and he really doesn't want to. Of course mom is giving him a big ole guilt trip and saying that all of her kids are bad. These "kids" including my co-worker are older adults. A few of them have families of their own... anywho he keeps telling me how bad he feels because his mom is making him feel bad... I'm really starting to not care.

Then the other day someone in another department said they heard that someone was let go from our department. Co-worker was in my office when this was said. The rest of that day he was paranoid that they were going to let him go. I would ask "why would they let you go?" He said because he had called in sick one day last week. WHAT?!?! So our company gives you sick days but if actually use them they'll fire you... that's what you're saying? So paranoid. He finally found out what really happened it as a trainee from a training class... sheesh

So here's Mr. Paranoia about being fired for "calling in sick" but he has no problem being on the phone almost all day talking to his friends and family. AND it's all long distance!!!!! Hello... our company has been chatting non-stop about cutting costs... remember we had to go stuff envelopes because we're trying to cut costs... and you feel the need to do all of your personal phone calls at work to save YOU a dime at home. You have a cell phone. Most people with a cell phone have free long distance... use it!

Tomorrow will be one more day of listening to how mom is guilting him. Then on Monday I'll get to hear whatever drama was created by actually visiting her. Can't wait!

Envelope Stuffing

As my good friend mentioned in her blog I'm one of those lucky ones who get to stuff envelopes. Yesterday was my first day to assist the existing staff. I haven't done it in YEARS and let's just say I was stressed as hell all day!! It seemed the day would never end. I did the minimum number of hours required and went home. I didn't check my email and even included an out of office advising that I didn't have access to my email. I figure if they want me to help stuff envelopes instead of my normal job then I'm not answering any questions related to my normal job while I stuff envelopes. I've also been told that if I have any technical difficulties while I stuff envelopes that I have to make up that time because we "must" have a certain amount of time devoted to the envelope stuffing.

I was back to my old duties today so tried to catch up as much as I could... And of course the day seemed to have ended before it started it went by so quick.

I'm back to stuffing envelopes Thursday, Friday and the first part of Monday. Yeah! And of course I will not answer one damn email. When I get my short breaks and lunch I'll come back to my desk... but it will be to surf the web or something mindless. I also have to hide when I'm out stuffing envelopes cause I don't want all these people coming by and saying, "oh my gosh, your stuffing envelopes? Why?" Go away, I'm busy!

Plus I'm taking next Thursday and Friday off so I will have Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday to finish my project that is due by April 15th. I hope they don't include any last minute information they want in there.

Bitter & Pissed!

bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed, pissed...

Okay, I don't usually talk about what's going on at work. And I really won't give any details here except to say that I'm bitter and pissed at my company right now. I have a project due in the middle of next month which is pretty high priority. I have to go to a weekly meeting with the Executives to discuss this project... but there is a crunch going on so I'm being pulled away from it to do this other thing. Which now gives me 7 days to complete my original project.

I'm salary so it doesn't matter how much time I put in. But I was putting in at least an hour or more a day to work on this thing. That all stopped today!! I put in 8 hours and I went home! And I will continue to do so up until and past the due date.

It will be interesting when they ask how my part of the project is going and I tell them that it's not completely ready due to your other crunch...

Oh well!
