What a Rough Afternoon

Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I've signed in. Mom was staying with us for about a week so I was with her most of the time. She's doing good and is back at her place. Staples have been taken out and she's eating and walking around slowly. :-)

So yesterday was a rather rough afternoon. I think Mr. M and I kind of jinxed ourselves. As we were going to work yesterday morning we were talking about how good M&M has been lately. So when Mr. M walked in the door of the house yesterday afternoon he knew immediately something was bad.

Evidently M&M had a bit of an upset tummy and left us a few "presents" in the hall and study. So as he was cleaning it up he stuck M&M outside, where she continued to relief herself (poor girl).

Well here in the DFW area it was VERY WINDY!!!! And well Mr. M didn't notice when he first let M&M out that the fence was split and leaning in the back corner. M&M didn't notice for awhile either as she was a little busy. Well Mr. M finally realized that she decided to take off.... again. (BTW she bolted out the front door about a week ago when some guy distracted us asking for directions just as we got home).

So Mr. M calls me and tells me she's gone and get home as quickly as possible. When I get closer to home I'm coming over the hill and notice this figure running and I know immediatly it's Mr. M. I look a little further a head of him and see M&M. It was on a rather busy street and she was heading back to our neighborhood so I drove on by and tried to head her off.

Long story short (okay maybe a little too late for that) she kept on going down a street and out into a field. When she comes out of the field and runs by me up towards our swimming pool area. There were two people who had just pulled up and were talking to one another and I yell out, "Can you please grab that dog? Please, please, please!?!?" So the guy kind of bends down to say "hi" and M&M jogs right up to him. So he grabs her collar and holds her till I can get there.

So the rest of the evening was spent trying to rig the fence so it will stand on its own. Running out to buy cleaning supplies and smell good stuff. Come home and clean.

She seems a bit better today so hopefully no more drama!

Please sign...

Okay, you know I love wolves... obviously my blog is all about wolves. And those who know me personally know my email address is even wolf related. Hell I have a dog that looks like a wolf (as close as I could get to not actually owning one).

Well there is a website that I found, Wolf Mountain Sanctuary, where they actually have wolves and people can come and see/play with them. (yes would be my ULTIMATE dream vacation, just makes me misty eyed thinking of the chance to see/play with a few wolves).

Anywho, I visit their site from time to time and I just checked it and discovered that there is some government sponsored campaign to start slaughtering wolves in Wyoming and Idaho. Of course before I put this on my blog I tried to look it up on Truth or Fiction but didn't find anything. So I can't completely say it's true. I haven't really taken the time to further search the internet.

However, in the event this is true I'm urging you to please sign their petition to stop this craziness!! Here is a link to their website that links to the petition. Thanks!!

I Found the Article...

I kept looking and finally I found it. Below is the article (link provided) to the police chase I was mentioning in the previous post. (funny "Z" that you were at the end of it and I evidently was at the beginning of it)

Article from "Star Community Newspapers"

Carrollton police arrested four men after a nearly 30-minute car chase took them from the scene of the crime — a Carrollton home — to U.S. Highway 380 in Denton.

The suspects have been arrested on suspicion of burglary of a home and evading arrest. The men are being detained in the Carrollton jail and will be transferred to a county jail by Friday, said Sgt. John Singleton, spokesperson for the Carrollton Police Department.

Police were alerted to the crime scene Thursday morning when a resident at the 1800 block of Green Ridge Court in Carrollton called 911, saying that three men had entered the home.

The homeowner was hiding when the call was made, but the burglars found him shortly after they entered the home and fled, Singleton said.

The suspects drove away in a silver Lincoln Navigator and were chased by police. The pursuit raced from Carrollton, east on the George Bush Turnpike, north on the Dallas North Tollway through Plano and Frisco and west on U.S. Highway 380 into Denton.

Officers from the Denton County Sheriff’s Office placed a tire deflating device on U.S. 380 and the Lincoln Navigator’s tires went flat near the intersection of U.S. 380 and North Loop 288 in Denton, Singleton said. The suspects were then arrested. Though the homeowner told police that three men had broken into the home, there were four men found in the Lincoln Navigator after the chase. All four were taken into custody.

All items stolen from the home at the 1800 block of Green Ridge Court have been recovered, Singleton said. One of the stolen items was a TV, he said.

Police are unsure if this crime is related to other recent crimes in the Dallas area. The names of the four suspects were not released Thursday.

In the middle of a car chase...

Okay, my lunch was an interesting thing...

For those of you who are in the area I'll go ahead and include details with street names ect.

So I'm going North on Marsh just before Trinity Mills and I hear police sirens. So I'm looking around to see if I need to get over and to my left I see a SUV followed by a police car coming out of the 24 Hour Gym. I figure that he's just being pulled over for speeding or something. Well at first he heads South and then I notice he takes a U-Turn and coming my way. Then I realize, he's not pulling over he's running from the cops!!

So I pull into the Williams Chicken that's located there on the corner (hadn't made it through Trinity Mills yet) to get out of the way because I figure he's gonna try and barrel through the intersection. NOPE! I look in my rear view mirror and here comes that SUV into the parking lot where I am. So I move up more and as far to the side as I can. So he cruises by me then 1 cop, a 2nd cop and a 3rd cop.

Granted I can't see what exactly he does after he goes through the parking lot but he gets out on to Trinity Mills and I don't know if he went the wrong way or jumped the median but he finally got back on Marsh heading North.

I turn around and get back on Marsh to go where I was going and we're all still sitting at the light (all 4 ways) and here's another cop coming from the East on Trinity Mills and then up Marsh. Then a cop from the West.

Finally it all died down and the traffic was able to flow again. I keep looking on line to see if there's any news on it yet and I don't see anything.

Released!

Well mom was released from the hospital on Tuesday. She seemed more aware of what was going on and everything so that was good. Sis and I went together to pick her up and brought her back to sis's place. I stayed until about 10pm to help get her all settled and let sis grab something to eat.

I had already requested Wednesday (today) off before we even realized she was coming home just so I could catch up on some rest. I could have slept more, but I can't complain I got more than I've had in awhile. Then I did the fun task of bills - yeah! And then went over to sis's place to spend time with them.

Sis is working from home the next few days to help watch over mom. Mom was very responsive today. Talking clearer and ate a little. She even got up and walked the apartment a little like she's supposed to. So hopefully she's on a great road to recovery.

Mom Update - 1/8/2008

Well it's been a long weekend. Sis and I went up there Friday/Saturday and Sunday. She's got a bit of pnemonia (sp) because she wasn't getting up and walking around. They've taken a cat scan to see if she has any internal bleeding because her blood count was low. As of today they said the blood count was good but they still want to see the results of the cat scan.

She's had depression before and this isn't really helping. She's not really talking to us much when we try to get her to talk. Mostly mumbles to us. I understand the first day after surgery because she was on major drugs but she's off of them now.

As of now they say she might be released in a day or two... we'll see.

Mom's Surgery - 1/3/2008

Today is mom's surgery and I knew it would be a long day so I cam prepared. I figured I'd jot a few things down through out the day and then transfer it to my blog later... so here it is!

Disclaimer: I'm using a laptop to transfer my notes and am not really proofing so please don't mind any misspellings etc. :-)

I know I mentioned in a previous post that they would probably want us here during rush hour, but I guess I was wrong. They wanted us here at 5:30am. So there was no traffic but I did want to leave at 4:30am to make sure we got here on time. I got up at 3:45. Mom stayed the night so I wouldn't have to worry about picking her up. When I went to wake mom up she wanted to go back to bed for 15 minutes but she got up anyway. Which was good because we did make it out on time.

It's now 6am and they've taken mom back - I'm assuming for prep. They didn't tell me or allow me to go with her. They said they'd come back to get me, we'll see.

The waiting room I'm in seems nice enough. I'm not sure if this is where I stay till she gets out. More and more people keep showing up so its getting louder. I have an idiot who brought his laptop and playing music on it as if the rest of us want to hear it. If this is where I have to stay I'll move to another section and eventually put on my iPod.

Like I said I came prepared. I brought my book of paper and pen not only to jot down my blog thoughts but also to note anything that the Dr. might tell me.

--> Okay I have to move <-- Maybe he'll realize when everyone around him moves. Anywho, I also brought a deck of cards and a single player hand game, Battleship. ANd my book, "To Kill a Mockingbird" that I bought before I started the Little House books so I figured I'd start it finally.

Idiot man with laptop just got called out so hopefully I don't have to deal with him anymore.

8:45am
I'm back in the waiting room. They finally let me see mom before she went off to surgery. They had put all the tubes and stuff in her before I'd gotten there.

Got to meet one of the Dr's and he was going over what was scheduled for today. Then he noticed something in her recordes that he had questions about and had to consult with her other Dr. Evidently she also has manastatic cancer that was potentially spread to the bones. This is from her breast cancer. This Dr. didn't know if we should still do the surgery because this manastatic cancer is more serious than what she's scheduled for and he didn't think it was worth while cutting her up. There was alot of confusion as he was tryin to explain to mom and mom trying to ask questions. Finally he came back and said surgery would go as scheduled. So today's procedure will include:
  • Remove the left kidney - they've determined this is a new cancer and not associated with the breast cancer
  • Right Adrenal Gland - 2 potential things to do, either biopsy it or remove. They've pretty much decided this one is related to the breast cancer. When we came in this morning it was our understanding that they were taking it out so I'm not exactly sure why the change in plans. I didn't ask.

They guesstimate about 2-3 hours to complete surgery.

So when I left her as she went to surgery I finally grabbed something to eat at the McDonalds they have here.

I don't think I'm in the mood to read yet so I think I'll throw on my iPod and play Battleship.

9:45am
The nurse called me to let me know that the left kidney is out and now they've going to biopsy the right adrenal gland

10:15am
Dr. came to see me. Told me mom was out of surgery she was doing good. She's in recovery and they'll come get me when she's awake and I can sit with her. Then I assume we'll get her room.

Funny I had just turned to page 1 of my book so didn't realize the Dr. was walking straight for me until he sat right in front of me.

Just a side note - you know in the waiting room they have coffee. And when I stay at a hotels they ahve coffee in your room. But you know I don't drink coffee, why not include some hot chocolate or something for me? I wouldn't mind something warm to drink. Anywho.

12:15pm
I'm still in the waiting room and no one has come to get me or call me since she's gotten out of surgery. I'm so tired. There's just so many positions you can try and sit/lay down in your chair to get a bit of sleep and I just know its going to put a nice kink in my neck and ache in my back. Oh and I'm starting to get hungry but don't want to chance missing someone come in by leaving to get something to eat.

1:15pm
I finally got to see mom. She was still drugged up so was asleep. Now we're just waiting on a room to open up. They say this can take a few hours up to all night. Hopefully it doesn't last that long.

The nurse I talked to said she was doing good, here heart rate was a little high so they're watching that.

Sis is leaving work early to come up. She's grabbing something for me to eat - very nice of her.

There's now a couple of girls sitting close to me just chatting away. One has a ringtone that's still Christmassy. Again I have mine on vibrate. BTW - one of the girls had a MySpace account but deleted it because the only people who were looking at it and talking to her through it were people she went to school with, "I had one class with you and we never talked then, so why do I want to talk to you now?" Ok, I'm bored.

Another side note - So I've recently discovered that the company who bought the company I work for is giving everyone who has a Manager title and above a bonus on top of their normal bonus. Just nice!!!! I continue to get no bonus. People in my department continue to receive no recognition or awards from our boss and now they get extra money!? That's just f*cked up!!!! I still like my job but really starting to hate the company.

Today is a big meeting with all of admin and Supervisors where they give us an update on what's going on and open it up to questions. If I was there today I was really concedering asking about this bonus. I'm sure there are many people who don't know about this key peice of information.

2:45pm
Sis came with the food and we woofed it down. Then I took her back to where mom was. She was semi awake. She was in a bit of pain - understandably. Sis and I are back in the waiting room and the lady who assists just fed the fishies. They're swimming around all happy and everything. We're playing Gin Rummy. I'm kicking sis's butt! ;-)

9:15pm
Mom was finally moved to a room just before 6pm. Lucky the timing as there are strict visiting times for the ICU area. It started at 6pm for 30 minutes and then you can't come back till 8pm. Evidently it runs every 2 hours. She was still in a bit of pain and feeling nauseated. We still don't know how long she'll be in the hospital to re-coop. Hopefully we'll here something more tomorrow. Sis stayed to visit mom again during the 8pm slot. I left about 7pm and now at home. I'll probably drop by tomorrow after work.

Well I'm off to do "poo duty" {cleaning out the cat litter box}, take a shower and go to bed. Later!
